    Unit Mission

    The School of Physical Education, Health and Wellness models a balanced Christian lifestyle through professional education, wellness leadership, recreation, and community involvement, while promoting a passion for lifelong learning.

    Unit Goals

    Goal 1

    Prepare majors for professional careers and/or graduate school

    Objective 1

    Graduates of each degree program will compete successfully in graduate school and or in the job market.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Institutional Goal #1.

    Objective 2

    Each student in a degree program is exposed to and encouraged to become actively involved in professional organizations.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to the Institutional Goals #3 and #4.

    Objective 3

    Students will demonstrate acceptable teaching and presentation skills for appropriate topics for each major.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #3.

    Objective 4

    Students will develop research skills of an appropriate level in each curriculum.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #2 and #3.

    Objective 5

    All graduates will demonstrate proficient technology skills.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #2.

    Goal 2

    Provide opportunities to experience a balanced Christian lifestyle

    Objective 1

    Students will provide evidence of community involvement.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Institutional Goal #4.

    Objective 2

    Students will maintain personal physical fitness.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #5.


    Goal 3

    Provide general education courses for all

    Objective 1

    The general education components in health, fitness, and physical activities will be meaningful, appropriate, and readily available.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #5.


    Goal 4

    Provide recreational opportunities for all

    Objective 1

    Student intramural recreation will be adequate and in harmony with the university mission.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #5.

    Objective 2

    Student intramural recreation will provide social interaction.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #4.


    Goal 5

    Provide quality public relation for Southern Adventist University locally and nationally.

    Objective 1

    The Gym-Masters will contribute to quality public relations for the university and the school of physical education, health and wellness.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Institutional Goal #5 and Student Development Goals #1 - #5.

    Objective 2

    The School of Physical Education, Health and Wellness will provide quality public relations activities such as: Hydro aerobics, annual triathlon, summer recreation programs, little league, jingle bell jog, gym kids, children swim lessons, pool parties, re-certification for first aid and CPR, and the use of the pool, track and tennis courts as opportunities for the local community.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Institutional Goal #4 and #5.


    Goal 6

    Provide campus-wide leadership for wellness

    Objective 1: Provide quality leadership to a comprehensive Employee Wellness program, contributing to S.A.U. being a great place to work.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Institutional Goal #2.

    Objective 2

    Provide quality leadership to a comprehensive Student Wellness program.

    Linkage: This goal is linked to Student Development Goal #5.
